The Irish rock band U2 returns to Portugal and has already sold out the two dates announced to present its 14th album, Songs of Experience!
On the 16th and 17th September 2018 U2 returns to Portugal!
The eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour 2018 presents the band’s 14th album, Songs of Experience, a sequel to the 2015 tour where, according to Rolling Stone, U2 “reinvented the arena shows”.
As with all the band’s tours, this new one explores one of the most innovative technologies. With a 360º stage and an innovative sound system, this tour includes a new high resolution LED screen – 9 times higher than the 2015 screen.
Born in the 1970s, U2 is probably one of the most famous and recognised bands in the world. With more than 175 million records sold, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. are followed by several generations and considered a reference for new talents in the music scene.
U2 in Portugal
The first time the band was in Portugal was at the Vilar de Mouros festival in 1982, one of the most mythical Portuguese festivals. With the albums Boy (1980) and October (1981), U2 delighted the thousands of people that attended the festival.
This was the first of several concerts U2 performed here. After this concert, there were two other in 1993 and 1997, to promote the album Zooropa, both at the old Estádio José Alvalade (the Sporting Clube de Portugal stadium, in Lisbon). The 2005 concert took place in the new stadium, Alvalade XXI.
In 2010, the Irish band brought innovation to the Coimbra municipal stadium, one of the main Portuguese cities located in the centre of the country. The 360º Tour, which promoted the album No Line on the Horizon, included a rotating stage, assembled in the centre of the venue, where the audience was able to watch the concert from several angles, a new experience for the Portuguese public.
